Chas Nobbs Close-up Competition

All fully paid up members are allowed to compete, apart from the winner of the previous year.
The competition to be held annually with a minimum of three competitors If the competition is postponed, then competitors can only be drawn from the names submitted on the original competition date.
The magic shall be such as would be performed for a group of friends at a party in a drawing room or at a bar. It may be performed standing or sitting. It may include card tricks but should exclude large apparatus or tricks, which are essentially for the platform. No Stooges or confederates are to be employed.
Performers will appear singly for one performance before a panel of judges and onlookers. The act should take between 5 to 10 minutes and acts outside these limits will be disqualified. At 9 minutes a signal will be given. The competition will be judged by a panel to be selected by the committee. The panel of three will comprise of one magical personality as Chairman, and two members of the lay public, a lady and a gentleman. The panel must not include any member of the Society or relative of the member. The winner will be the competitor securing the highest aggregate number of points awarded by the panel, judged independently. In the event of a tie, the competitor with the highest number of points awarded for Entertainment Value will be declared the winner.
The magical judges shall mark out of a maximum of 50 points subdivided as follows:
Entertainment value 20
Magical content 10
The lay judges shall give an overall maximum of 50 points bearing in mind the overall entertainment value, appearance and magical ability.
