Ilford Magical Society: Card Sharp Competition, 1/2/12

One of the biggest competition turnouts for a long while took place in the clubroom. Thirteen members shuffled and cut their way through trick after trick in an attempt to impress the judges. Nerves got the better of some of the old hands, but it was great to see some of the new, young talent in the club get placed in the top three. Youngest member Brad claimed third place with his skilful display ace productions and last year’s winner Ian came second with an ace assembly but this year the crown was won by Glenn Spiro with a display of “poker hand” magic. Well done to all who took part in a great night.

Waltham Abbey Church Centre was the scene of some lively entertainment as our compere Brian Fisher got the evening under way by introducing the eight magicians who were to stun the audience of about 70 with their close up sleight of hand skills, cheers and gasps of amazement could be heard all round the room.
The second half saw Paul Clancy, Dave Kay and Mark Mchawi wow the audience further each with their own unique brand of stage magic all seamlessly linked together by Brian Fisher. Another great evening of entertainment enjoyed by all.

Wow! what a great night.

Top professional Luke Jermay certainly gave us a fun, entertaining, but most of all a thought provoking lecture. With a wealth of experience gained whilst working with some of the top professionals in the world Luke shared his thoughts on magic, mentalism, presentation and amused us with anecdotes from his time in Las Vegas. Amidst all of this he clearly illustrated his points with tricks that amazed everyone and then explained their workings in great detail.
